It may be difficult to get an Uber/Lyft from the San Lorenzo Valley, where the wedding venue is. So we recommend you rent cars and carpool wherever possible. Do not count on being able to call an Uber/Lyft after the wedding. The highways near Boulder Creek are winding. Plan to take these slow and enjoy the redwoods along the way.
Boulder Creek, Ben Lomond, and Felton are all charming small redwood towns within 15-20 min from the venue. If you want more beach time, Santa Cruz is a ~30-40 min drive. Recommended hotels below, or find great options on Airbnb or Vrbo.
We recommend staying at the Brookdale Lodge, <10 minute drive from the venue. The wedding after-party will be here!
Brookdale is a low-key historic gem - - Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Herbert Hoover, and Al Capone all escaped the spotlight in San Francisco here by posting up deep in the redwoods.
To book: call the Brookdale and mention Rudy-Russell wedding for our reserved block rate of $139/night (king) and $149/night (double full).
The Scott's Valley Hilton is a bit more upscale than Brookdale, ~30 min from Camp Campbell and ~15 min drive from Twin Lakes State Beach. No wedding block, but you can get a 15% discount off the room rate by reserving from this link.
Trendy, comfortable hotel in downtown Santa Cruz, ~30 minute drive from the venue.
In case you're planning to come early or stay long, here are a few great-value gems we've come across in the area (and beyond!):
-AirBnB guest unit in Felton w/ nice garden (top 1% of homes on airbnb)
-AirBnB guesthouse w/ a great deck near Boulder Creek
-AirBnB spacious tiny home in Bonny Doon
-PigeonPoint Lighthouse is a rare find right on the coast, hostel-style lodging Fri-Sun (note this is 60min + from the wedding venue)
-San Francisco: the Parker House is a lovely B&B close to Dolores Park if you have time to squeeze in a night or two in the city (90min+ from the wedding venue)
-State Camp Grounds: one of the beautiful things about the Bay Area is you can camp year-round. A few fave campgrounds but there are many, many more: Henry Cowell State Park is the closest to the venue (20 min). China Camp is not close to the venue, but just 20 min outside SF with great biking access; Memorial Park in Pescadero is surrounded by old-growth redwood trees; Samuel P Taylor Campground or others nearby give you good access to the beautiful Point Reyes area.
The venue is ~1-2hr from 3 major airports: San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland.
We strongly suggest renting a car or carpooling with others so that you can get around. It will be easy to get an Uber/Lyft to Boulder Creek from the airports, but not easy within the San Lorenzo Valley. All highways (Hwy 9, Hwy 17) are very windy, plan to take it slow!
Closest airport to Boulder Creek (~50 min) and Santa Cruz (60 min).
SFO is ~1 hr 20 min from Boulder Creek and Santa Cruz. (Take Hwy 1 for a scenic route if going directly to Santa Cruz!)
OAK is ~1.5-2hr from Boulder Creek and Santa Cruz.
